Mental Health & Wellbeing
At Benfiled, we believe that mental health and well-being are just as important as physical health. We are committed to providing a supportive environment where all pupils feel valued, understood, and cared for. This page offers guidance on the support available within the school and links to trusted resources and services in the community.
Our Commitment to Supporting Mental Health
We recognise that mental health challenges can impact any young person. Our staff are trained in understanding and responding to mental health needs, and we are here to support pupils as they navigate these challenges. We work closely with pupils, parents, and caregivers to create a safe space where everyone feels comfortable discussing mental health.
In-School Support Systems
- Pastoral Support Team
- Our dedicated pastoral team is available to talk with students who may be experiencing stress, anxiety, or other emotional challenges. The team offers a confidential space for pupils to discuss their concerns and access guidance.
- Mental Health First Aiders
- Trained staff members are on hand to provide immediate support, offering a listening ear and practical advice. They are a great first point of contact for pupils who need someone to talk to.
- Relational Practices
- Through our relational practices, we foster a supportive school culture, emphasising empathy, respect, and positive interactions. This helps build a strong sense of community and belonging.
External Support Services
We work closely with local health and mental well-being services for additional support. If further assistance is required, we can guide pupils and families toward these services:
- Newcastle & Gateshead: Children and Young People Service (CYPS)
- Provides assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children and young people facing mental health challenges.

How to Access Support
If you or your child would like to access support, please contact any member of our school’s pastoral team. You can also discuss mental health concerns with your GP, who can provide guidance on appropriate services and referrals. Why Mental Health Matters
Promoting positive mental health helps young people thrive in school and beyond. With strong support systems in place, we aim to create an environment where every child feels empowered to ask for help and knows where to turn when needed. By working together, we can make a real difference in the lives of our students, helping them develop resilience, confidence, and the skills to manage their well-being.
