Our Year 10 pupils had a fantastic opportunity to visit the Operations and Maintenance Base for the Dogger Bank wind farm project at the Port of Tyne in South Shields. They had the chance to learn more about the construction of the wind farm and some of the creative solutions to solve engineering problems that were encountered by the project.
They also learnt about some of the 400+ long term roles that the project has created in the local area and how the green energy sector continues to grow in our region!
“I had the chance to learn about lots of different career options in that area” said one of our pupils with another saying “What I found most useful were the tips from the apprentices in how you can progress in certain fields.”
It was also really exciting to learn about the sheer scale of the wind turbines! Their blades are 107 metres long and can spin up to 250 mph! When the project is eventually completed in 2026 it will power approximately 6 million homes across the country.
You can learn more about the project on their website or in their video below.
