Safeguarding

At Benfield, we understand that it is our responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of the children and young people entrusted into our care, by establishing a safe environment in which our pupils can learn, achieve and transform. We understand that ensuring the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility and have clear systems in place to ensure our procedures are highly effective. All policies and procedures in reference to Child Protection are formally reviewed each year.

What is Safeguarding?

Schools have a statutory responsibility to keep children safe from harm. The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) defines safeguarding as:

  • Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • Preventing harm to children’s health or development
  • Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes
